Byrum Brown expects this wide receiver to break a longtime Auburn streak in 2026

The Tigers have not had a 1,000-yard receiver in a season since Ronney Daniels in 1999.

It’s been quite some time since Auburn had a wide receiver go over the 1,000 receiving yards mark in one season. In fact, this season will mark the 27th since Ronney Daniels accomplished that feat in 1999, catching 56 passes for 1,068 yards in Tommy Tuberville’s first season on the Plains.

With the arrival of quarterback Byrum Brown and a plethora of talented wide receivers from USF from the transfer portal, can Auburn break that streak? Brown thinks so, and he’s predicting it is Chas Nimrod.

Byrum Brown sets high expectations for Chas Nimrod

"I hate to say it, but: 1,000-yard receiver," Brown said. "I'm going to put that expectation on him. He works hard each and every day. I know he's shooting for that, and I'm going to work hard to get it to him and everyone else, as well."

The former Tennessee signee caught 23 passes for 466 yards for USF last season, all of that coming in the first six games as he missed the second half of the season with an injury. Fully healthy and comfortable with Brown and Alex Golesh’s offense, Nimrod, along with fellow USF transfers Keshaun Singleton, Kodi Pettigrew, Christian Neptune and Jeremiah Koger, are looking to turn Auburn’s offense into an explosive one after several seasons of offensive ineptitude on the Plains.

For Brown, it’s all about having a comfort level with those he’s throwing the ball to.

"Man, it's great," Brown said. "You've just got that natural chemistry you built for a whole year. Just bringing it to a new place and building chemistry with the new guys. It's been extremely fun in the winter, and now in the spring. Excited to keep it rolling."

Ke-Andre Lambert-Smith was the last Tiger to get close to the 1,000-yard mark, catching 50 passes for 981 yards in 2024.
