The Auburn Tigers suffered the most devastating transfer portal announcement so far this offseason on Monday with Cam Coleman's defection from the Plains. Already, sharks are circling for the former Central (Phenix City) Red Devils star.
The Texas A&M Aggies, whom Coleman committed to originally, before flipping to the home state Tigers, could make sense as a suitor. KC Concepcion is NFL-bound, and Coleman could have a ready-made role in an offense that looks likely to again be led by Marcel Reed in 2026.
Coleman could also potentially replace several receivers on a Lone Star State SEC team in Austin. Texas Longhorns On SI's Zach Dimmitt believes several UT WRs could be delaying their decision until there's clarity on Coleman's future.
"Pairing Coleman with a quarterback like Arch Manning would give NFL scouts tape to salivate over. And whether the rest of the country agrees or not, having this duo together would once again put Texas in the conversation to be a preseason Top 5 team headed into next year," Dimmitt wrote.
"The Longhorns are expected to return wide receivers Ryan Wingo, Emmett Mosley V and Parker Livingstone next season but there's nothing guaranteed yet on that front. It's certainly realistic to think that Coleman's portal decision could impact what Texas' other wide receivers choose to do, but only time will tell."
Cam Coleman's agent is a Texas and Nebraska alum
Put some, but not all, stock into Coleman's agent, David Mulugheta of Athlete's First, is a University of Texas and University of Nebraska College of Law graduate.
While the Cornhuskers just lost Dylan Raiola and have an uncertain offensive attack, the Longhorns have Arch Manning under center. Realistically, there's not a bigger spotlight for Coleman. Another of his top options, the Ohio State Buckeyes, has Jeremiah Smith. Carnell Tate would be a household name on any other program, but in Columbus, he's the Robin to Smith's Batman.
Coleman would be, at best, competing with Smith to be WR1 with the Buckeyes. On Texas, he'd be the other end of Manning's highlight reel passes that'd be endlessly replayed across ESPN's entire slate of sports talk shows.
Just something to chew on as Coleman's future hangs in the balance, with his and Mulugheta's big decision approaching in January.
