Cam Newton ripped for going 'a little too far' with violent comments on UGA

Cam Newton is hyped about the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry game against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday night under the lights at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Perhaps too fired up, according to some on the UGA side.

Dawn of the Dawg's Trevor Michael believes Newton took his comments -- which included going "tailgate to tailgate, slapping Georgia flags down, breaking they sticks, breaking they whole energy" after a potential win for his Auburn Tigers -- too far.

"Of course Newton wants Auburn to win on the night they retire his jersey. A loss to Georgia would taint what should be one of the greatest nights of his career. So it isn't surprising to see Newton beg and plead with Auburn and their fans to do everything they can to beat Georgia," Michael wrote.

"But Newton took his comments a little too far by saying he wants to go to Georgia tailgates, rub Auburn's win in the faces of UGA fans and tear Georgia flags down."

To be fair to Michael, this isn't a case of Dawg fans being too soft, like their defense has become against SEC opponents with teeth, as has been the case all week about Nick Fairley's infamous hits on Aaron Murray during a 49-31 Auburn win in 2010.

What Newton is suggesting is basically acting like UGA fans, stooping to their level by barking and showing less tact. Given the fact that AU is losing home games on the Plains these days, there's probably no reason to have anything but hospitality, even if it's tempting to act a fool after a program-defining win.

If Hugh Freeze's offense can show any life, there's solace in knowing the Bulldogs showed vulnerability against Alabama Crimson Tide QB Ty Simpson and, particularly, Tennessee Volunteers QB Joey Aguilar, through the air. Jackson Arnold does his best work on the ground, but Freeze has shown a stubbornness to air it out; probably because he has an all-SEC receiving corps that may already be counting down the days until the next transfer portal window in January given the lack of an aspiring passing game thus far in 2025.

A win is possible on the Plains with Jordan-Hare voodoo floating around on Pat Dye Field. So is a respectable response.

Newton is the man of the hour and the greatest Tiger to ever put on an orange and blue uniform based on one season alone.

Ignore his wishes if Auburn wins the football game.
