Cam Newton is not a fan of Deuce Knight wearing the No. 2 for Auburn football moving forward. When asked about it on his "4th&1" podcast, Newton answered "f*** no" when asked if he was cool with his number being worn by the Lucedale (MS) native.

Newton challenged Knight to earn his keep and revive the QB position at Auburn, which hasn't exactly been a strong suit the last few years.

"It's a f*** no for me. I like Deuce, played against him. But in this day and age bro, everything is earned. And what you did in high school, no one gives a f*** in college. I really hope that you're good. I really hope that you stay at Auburn. I really hope that you can do everything that you're going to say as an avid, diehard Auburn fan," Newton said.

"It's easier said than done, bro. Like win the locker room first. F*** numbers. F*** entitlement. F*** all that s***. Bro, win a game. Because the quarterback play over the years at Auburn has been egregious. It's been satanic. It's been something that I can't even watch."

In short, Newton is worried that Knight's focus is on the wrong things. Sure, getting the No. 2 with the nickname "Deuce" is nice, but that won't mean a thing if the Tigers are still stuck in neutral under center.

Knight not working out at QB would probably be the death knell for Hugh Freeze's coaching tenure. The stakes are high for him to work out, whether it be in 2025 out of the gate or in 2026 after a year with a stop-gap QB.

There's real, tangible pressure for Knight to succeed. It looks like Newton just put even more on the dual-threat George County star.

Newton isn't wrong for doing it, either. Things cannot continue the way they are on the Plains at the most important position on the field.
