Former Auburn Tigers quarterback Deuce Knight committed to the Ole Miss Rebels in the transfer portal for a chance to start under center, since Alex Golesh's plan all along was to bring USF Bulls QB transfer Byrum Brown to the Plains. Unfortunately, Knight realized that sometimes it's not greener on the other side; sometimes, it's the same grass.
Knight will be kept on the bench for an upperclassman in Oxford, Mississippi, too, after Trinidad Chambliss was granted an extra year of eligibility, via a retroactive medical redshirt, to play for the University of Mississippi in 2026.
Knight, understandably, was frustrated that Pete Golding sold him on the chance to start, knowing that Chambliss was always the Rebs' focus. Auburn Tigers On SI's Micah Farmer ripped Knight's maturity after he acted like Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J. Brown and cryptically posted on social media upon learning he wouldn't be Ole Miss's starting QB.
"In response to the news, Knight has removed any mention of Ole Miss Football from his Instagram bio and changed his profile picture on the site to a simple black circle. There were already concerns about Knight’s maturity after the way he chose to leave Auburn while trolling the Tigers’ fan base, and acting like AJ Brown after a game with no catches on social media isn’t going to help that perception," Farmer wrote.
All Deuce Knight did was remove Ole Miss mentions on his Instagram
As Farmer pointed out, Knight removed all mentions of the Rebels on his Instagram account following the Chambliss eligibility news. Brown posted Bible verses, including Mark 6:11, which states, "If you're not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw."
Brown has not been traded by the Eagles yet, and Knight hasn't given any indication he won't simply sit behind Chambliss in 2026 for his home state's flagship university. Both cases might end up being social media blowing a top athlete's vulnerable moments out of proportion.
It all depends on what happens next. If Knight becomes a good teammate and learns from Chambliss, and to be clear, he's since shared outward excitement about the star 23-year-old's return, then everyone will forget that the Lucedale native made some emotional changes to his IG.
Of course, if he ends up never starting for Ole Miss, we can revisit this and realize this was the moment Knight's connection to the Rebels was permanently compromised.
Only time will tell. Knight controls this narrative either way.
