From a veteran production standpoint, Auburn needs a KeAndre Lambert-Smith replacement in the Tigers' receiving corps. Georgia Tech football transfer Eric Singleton Jr. appears capable of being the veteran complement to the "Freeze Four," or, more specifically, the group's standout duo of Cam Coleman and Malcolm Simmons.
Auburn Undercover's Nathan King claimed Singleton "looked the part" during AU's spring camp.
"Singleton is hoped to be an experienced and explosive complement to Auburn sophomores Cam Coleman and Malcolm Simmons, and he certainly looked the part in spring practice. Bringing in strong production from two seasons at Georgia Tech, Singleton was called the fastest player on the roster by his teammates. His rapport with both Jackson Arnold and Auburn's offensive staff will be crucial to unlocking another gear of the Tigers' offense this season," King wrote.
Singleton had already garnered top-five portal WR hype from ESPN's Max Olson earlier in April.
"Singleton, the No. 4 overall player in ESPN’s transfer rankings in December, was extremely coveted upon entering the portal. The former freshman All-American finished second in ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2023 and has put up 1,849 all-purpose yards and 10 total scores over his first two college seasons," Olson said, per Saturday Down South.
"Singleton also ran track at Georgia Tech, with a personal best of 10.32 seconds in the 100-meter dash. The speedster is hoping to play up to his early-round NFL draft pick potential in an Auburn offense that seriously reloaded with portal pickups this offseason."
While it's a shame Perry Thompson and Bryce Cain's names aren't mentioned alongside Coleman and Simmons', it's a testament to Hugh Freeze's recruiting at the position that he just landed one of the portal's top talents to complement two of his 2024 in-state recruits.
Of course, it's on Jackson Arnold to make it all work. Freeze likes what he has under center, but he's supposed to in the spring before the Oklahoma transfer has played a snap.
Singleton Jr. is there to make life easier for Arnold. It sounds like he's been doing that this spring.
