Former Auburn Tigers receiver Eric Singleton Jr. is the player ESPN's Harry Lyles Jr. feels warrants the most attention at the Florida Gators' Orange and Blue spring football game on Saturday in the "Swamp." Lyles believes the familiarity with the former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets tandem of offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner and quarterback Aaron Philo makes him a candidate for a bounce-back after a down year on the Plains.
Per Lyles, "WR Eric Singleton Jr. Singleton transfers from Auburn, but has some crossover with Philo and Faulkner from Georgia Tech. He's a talented receiver who had a bit of a down year last season after a monster freshman season in 2023 that carried over into 2024 before his transfer to Auburn. He should be a main target for the Gators heading into 2026."
Singleton was one of the many players who entered East Central Alabama with high expectations in the Hugh Freeze era, but left with hopes of recapturing his past glory en route to another SEC school. Cam Coleman, now expected to thrive with the Texas Longhorns in 2026, is in a similar boat.
So much for the WR guru Freeze.
Eric Singleton Jr. joining Marcus Davis in Gainesville
Singleton is being joined by Marcus Davis, who was part of Freeze's staff all three years at Auburn as the receivers coach, in his next act at Florida. As Davis revealed, the relationship goes back to his days coaching for the Georgia Southern Eagles trying to reel in the Douglasville, Georgia, product.
“Yeah, it was pretty cool. I actually recruited him when I was at Georgia Southern. So I had a previous relationship with him. And a funny story, he still had my number. Saved this coach Davis, Georgia Southern, so I told him he got to update it, and now he got to update it again. Yeah, we had a relationship back at Georgia Southern, back in 2022, when he came out of high school," Davis said.
There will be an AU connection in a different shade of orange and blue that they wear in Alachua County, Florida. Things didn't work out on the Tigers, but things could be looking up on a Gators squad that's been itching for a breakthrough for as long as Auburn.
