The Auburn Tigers have already completed 67% of their 2026 football season. Thus far, it’s hard not to be happy with the results.
While some may see the blowout losses to Ole Miss and LSU over the past two weeks as a problem, Auburn realistically was always going to have a rough October. Coming away from Athens with the Georgia upset was progress enough to be happy with Alex Golesh in year one. Especially when you factor in the two one-score wins in high-pressure situations on the road and at opening kickoff.
What now, though? Arkansas looms tomorrow afternoon, then a trip to Starkville to face Mississippi State, then an FCS schedule softener with Samford, and finally the Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa.
What are the possible outcomes for Auburn over the final month of the season?
Auburn wins out, enters CFP bubble
If Alabama can be ranked No. 5 in the CFP rankings with two losses, and multiple three-loss teams, like South Carolina, can be ranked in the backend, why not a CFP bubble appearance for Auburn?
Granted, an actual CFP berth with four losses would take a historic amount of upsets in the final few weeks. But getting their name in the final CFP rankings is an achievable goal.
Never say never?
Auburn wins three of four, closes out successful year
Losing the Iron Bowl is expected, though perhaps it shouldn’t be. Regardless, if the Tigers win three of their last four, Auburn fans should realistically be happy with the progress in year one for Golesh.
If he beats UGA and Alabama, Golesh will have unequivocally proved he’s the right man for the job. You take 2-10 if those are the two wins.
Auburn splits final four games, disappoints
Now we’re approaching worst-case scenario. To lose to Arkansas or Mississippi State would prove Auburn is still in the bottom tier of the SEC. With all the spending done on this program, that’d be a massive disappointment, frankly.
Of course, losing to Samford would be unfathomable and may have Golesh’s seat heating up. We won’t even list that outcome here.
