Former Auburn head coach and current Alabama senator Tommy Tuberville mocked Democratic VP candidate Tim Walz's football knowledge after Minnesota's governor made a metaphor about moving the ball down the field "one inch at a time" instead of yards.

Tuberville evoked one of the most infamous games of all time, AU's scorigami-friendly 3-2 win over Mississippi State in 2008, to make his point.

"Even in my 3-2 win against Mississippi State in 2008 we moved the ball yards, not inches, 'Coach,'" Tuberville tweeted.

Tuberville was responding to a Walz campaign tweet.

"It’s a tied game. Two minutes on the clock. We’ve got the ball, and we’re driving down field. Even if we move one inch at a time, one phone call at a time, one door knock at a time – we will win this," Walz tweeted.

Tim Walz has marketed himself as a football coach on the campaign trail

Between Walz's "inch by inch" comment and his claim Democratic NY rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez can "run a mean pick-six" in the Madden video game in a since-deleted tweet, Walz's "coach" persona is taking major narrative hits this week.

Donald Trump, who attends many UFC events, misremembered 170-pound welterweight fighter Georges St-Pierre fighting heavyweight boxer James Toney on the "Joe Rogan Experience" podcast. It was Randy Couture who fought Toney in 2010.

Mistakes happen when politicians try to relate to the common sports fan.

But Walz has deliberately tried to play the football coach character on the campaign trail. His verbiage reveals that it's either a facade or the man has a serious case of the yips when speaking in public.
