Texas Longhorns defensive coordinator Will Muschamp made a bold statement about his student-athletes that also read as a swipe at several of his past employers. Muschamp implied that past schools he worked at didn't have players who went to class.

Per Muschamp, while speaking to reporters on Friday, “Somebody that embraces work ethic, somebody that wants to improve and get better every single day, somebody that wants to get coached hard and developed. In our society right now, sometimes that’s easy to spot that they don’t, and we’ve got to make sure we stay away from those guys who don’t want to get developed and coached the right way ... (They've) got to have a good transcript. Actually, our players go to school here at Texas. We actually go to class. Not like some other places.”

Muschamp's comments essentially implicate a third of the SEC. Muschamp, a former Auburn Tigers defensive coordinator, also worked for the LSU Tigers, Florida Gators, South Carolina Gamecocks, and, most recently, the Georgia Bulldogs.

He probably wasn't talking about the West Georgia Wolves, Eastern Kentucky Colonels, or Valdosta State Blazers, since those players weren't NFL-bound. Who knows, though.

What school Will Muschamp talking about?

Muschamp's most recent employer might've been the target of his ire. And probably not Auburn University, which Muschamp left on good terms for the Gamecocks' head coaching job. Muschamp's departure from AU was natural, and many of Auburn's alumni have stories about seeing Tigers players from all sports in class.

As for UGA, well, there are foundational problems in the football program culture-wise that are well-documented. Plus, Muschamp comes to Texas directly from Athens, having been demoted from the defensive coordinator during his five years Between the Hedges on Kirby Smart's staff.

You won't hear Muschamp explicitly knock his friend Kirby in the public square. You may have just heard him allude to many NFL-bound Dawgs from his coaching tenure, or his personal experiences during his playing career as a safety for Georgia in the early 1990s, though.
