Former Auburn football offensive coordinator Mike Bobo was rumored to be considering retirement, but Rivals' Radi Nabulsi threw cold water on that idea in a Facebook post.
With that said, as Dawn of the Dawg's Trevor Michael points out, there is no guarantee Bobo won't be fired by Kirby Smart before the start of the 2025 season.
"Nabulsi reached out to many of his contacts close to Bobo and the Georgia program on Friday to see if anything had changed with these new rumors (of Georgia Tech Offensive Coordinator Buster Faulkner replacing him) coming out. And Nabulsi stated very clearly what he heard from his sources," Michael wrote.
"Nabulsi did go on to state the obvious at the end of his video that this could change at any point. He also stated that Kirby Smart could fire Bobo, or any coach for that matter, whenever he wants to as well. So there is still a chance that Bobo could be off the staff by the time the 2025 season begins."
Paul Finebaum has questioned Smart keeping Bobo around this offseason after his play-calling led to Georgia falling behind Notre Dame at the end of the first half in a 23-10 Sugar Bowl loss.
“They will not be blaming Kirby Smart,” Finebaum said on ESPN’s “Get Up” in early January. “They will be blaming Mike Bobo, who is the offensive coordinator. He came in and took over for Todd Monken who went to the NFL. And quite frankly, nobody is very happy with him. He’s Kirby Smart’s best friend, they were roommates, and it many believe that Kirby Smart looks past reality and simply respected and honored a friend who used to work for Mark Richt at Georgia and then moved on and failed as a head coach.
“It was just a terrible call in every respect and I think Kirby Smart even admitted that at halftime. It is easy to say after the fact but when you have a quarterback who is struggling, he has made some good plays but you’re not that confident in him, don’t put the game in his hands when you’re only three points behind, and everyone in America saw what happened after that mistake.”
Bobo helped Bo Nix improve in 2021 but ultimately couldn't make him happy enough to stay on the Plains -- though Bryan Harsin is more to blame. At Georgia, Bobo's arrival has coincided with the end of the Bulldogs' championship stretch and Carson Beck's regression.
It's unknown where his career is headed, but Bobo has lost the narrative in many ways already.
