Former Auburn forward Chaney Johnson will play for the Nets in 2026.

On Friday, Brooklyn announced they had signed the Alabaster native to a two-way contract, increasing their roster size to 18. Johnson is expected split time between Brooklyn and their developmental G-League affiliate, the Long Island Nets.

Johnson was a key component during the Tigers’ Final Four run last season. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 7.0 points per game during his two years at Auburn and shot 54.4 percent from the field.

Before transferring to The Plains, Johnson played for the University of Alabama-Huntsville where he was a standout shooter, making First Team All-GSC during the 2021–2022 season. After going undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft, the twenty-three-year-old signed with the Cleveland Charge, the Cavaliers’ G-League affiliate. Currently, Johnson is excelling with the Charge, averaging 10.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.

Johnson joins eight other Auburn alumnus in the NBA and becomes only the second UAH Charger to ever make it to the league, per Mark Inabinett of AL.com.

The Nets have suffered so far this season, boasting a 10–19 record and one of the worst defenses in the NBA history. Johnson will look to help guide Brooklyn to a redemptive 2026.
