Former Auburn receiver Cam Coleman didn't have a good day during Texas's 20-17 win over Tennessee on Rocky Top.
Coleman had one catch for 30 yards, an impressive reception that may have had some pass interference involved, though it wasn't called. Instead, a roughing-the-passer penalty on Vols safety TJ Metcalf for hitting Arch Manning was called on the play.
Other than that, Coleman was quiet. Worse yet, with 4:36 left in the third quarter, it was reported that Coleman was still being tended to on the sidelines.
Coleman left the field with a limp, and though he returned to the action, he didn't have the ball thrown his way in the final frame.
Cam Coleman's impact at Texas isn't major yet
Coleman has four touchdowns through four games, but they all came against Group of Six competition. He had two during his Longhorns debut against Texas State in Week 1, and the other two against UTSA.
Against Ohio State, he had a freakish interception that popped right up into the hands of Buckeyes safety Jaylen McClain. That play could've set Texas up in the first quarter deep in Ohio State territory, but it helped contribute to a major first-half slide instead. The Longhorns completed a 20-point comeback during an epic 24-23 Texas win at DKR Stadium, but that's not the point.
Coleman hasn't played up to his standard yet in the first month of the season, when it truly matters. The Longhorns are No. 1, but Ryan Wingo and Emmett Mosley V have had more pronounced impacts.
UT didn't invest in the market's highest-priced transfer for a decoy. Steve Sarkisian needs to figure out how to integrate Coleman into the offense more whenever he's healthy.
Auburn and Cam Coleman both in good places after parting ways
Auburn's offense has many issues, but the receivers actually aren't included in that. The USF transfers who came with Coach Alex Golesh, offensive coordinator Joel Gordon, and quarterback Byrum Brown have seen success.
Keshaun Singleton, Chas Nimrod, and Jeremiah Koger are the three leading receivers in orange and blue this year.
While Coleman hasn't produced the stats he was hoping for yet, he's still in the best spot possible. The runway is there for a massive end to the 2026 season in Austin, assuming injuries don't hamper him over the next two months.
This is a situation where everyone is happy with where they are now. Well, happy enough in the receivers, at least, when it comes to Auburn's viewpoint.
