Big news hit the Plains on Tuesday morning with the announcement of former USF quarterback Byrum Brown's commitment to his former coach Alex Golesh and the Auburn Tigers.
Brown, a senior who spent the past four seasons at USF will have one year of eligibility remaining, and he will spend it in orange and blue. He led the nation in total offense last season, racking up 3,158 passing yards and 28 touchdowns, his longest pass completed at 66 yards. He rushed for an additional 1,008 yards and 14 touchdowns, meaning he recorded over 4,000 offensive yards in the 2025 season alone.
In his career at USF, Brown has recorded 7,690 passing yards and 61 touchdowns in addition to 2,265 rushing yards and another 31 touchdowns. According to his biography page on the USF football website, Brown is one of only four FBS players in the past 30 seasons to log at least 2,800 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns and 900 rushing yards through 11 games.
The other three? LSU’s Jayden Daniels (2023), Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts (2019) and Louisville’s Lamar Jackson (2016).
With all of the Auburn Tigers' quarterbacks from last season hitting the transfer portal, it's looking like there will be a complete rebuild of the room heading into 2026. Byrum Brown joins his former teammate, USF transfer QB Locklan Hewlett, along with 2026 signee Rhys Brush. Up to three scholarship quarterbacks, it's still likely Golesh and his coaching staff look to take one more quarterback from the transfer portal if possible.
