Over the weekend, the Auburn Tigers football team finally broke its four-game losing streak and picked up its first conference win of the season. It was a breath of fresh air for everyone involved, from players to coaches to fans.

In the lead-up to the Tigers' matchup with Arkansas, many were calling for head coach Hugh Freeze's head, believing Auburn should be further along than this in Freeze's third year on the Plains. Things haven't been working, but with a quarterback competition at practice this week do the Tigers have the opportunity to turn things around?

Former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy shared conflicting opinions regarding the coaching situation on the Plains, which he shared on his YouTube show Tuesday morning. In the 'Who's on the hot seat' segment, Hugh Freeze's name was mentioned.

"While I think that they've kind of downplayed everything, I think it's really important for Hugh Freeze, he's got to beat Vandy and/or Alabama," McElroy declared, per College Football HQ. "I think that would be plenty to give him another year."

Still, despite clearly being on the hot seat, McElroy doesn't think it's a good idea for Auburn football to kick Freeze to the curb just yet, especially with all the other programs that will be looking for new head coaches in 2026.

"Given the cycle, given what's going on right now, if I were Auburn, I would hold tight, I would not make a move," McElroy added. "I would give Hugh Freeze another year. I think Hugh Freeze is a good football coach. I know it hasn't worked up to this point, but I think you can point to some very very very close losses and that's a hard thing to kind of stomach.

"I don't think at this point it'd be wise for them to get engaged in the coaching carousel."

The Tigers will pursue their second conference win this Saturday against Kentucky at 6:30 p.m. from Jordan-Hare Stadium.
