When Towns McGough signed with Auburn after flipping his commitment from Ole Miss in 2024, the expectations were that he would follow Alex McPherson in the line of great kickers that played on the Plains.
After two seasons, including a freshman campaign that saw him having to fill in for McPherson due to illness, the Auburn High School product has announced he plans on entering the transfer portal.

One of the most highly sought-after kickers in the nation two years ago, McGough was thrown into the fire as a freshman and struggled, making just 5 of his 12 field goal attempts. It was a rare sight for people who had followed him since he played for the Tigers down the road, where he became famous for his accuracy and the power of his leg, often making 50-plus-yard field goals during his high school career.
During Auburn’s 4-game losing streak in 2024, McGough missed some critical field goals that would have helped the Tigers possibly come out as victors. This past season, he attempted just one field goal, a miss in the second game against Ball State.
