Auburn hosted 4-star Texas commit Corey Wells this past weekend as the Tigers routed Ball State 42-3 in the home opener in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

How much of an impact did Hugh Freeze and his staff have on the defensive lineman? It must have been something because two Rivals recruiting writers, Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong, have predicted the Petal, Miss., native to flip to the Tigers.

A 6-foot-5, 330-pound lineman, Wells is ranked the 27th-best defensive lineman in the 2026 recruiting class and has interest from some of the top programs in the nation. His key recruiter at Auburn is Vontrell King-Williams, the second-year defensive line coach for Freeze.

247Sports' Cooper Petagna has the scouting report on Wells:

"3-4 defensive lineman primarily positioned as a nose tackle that wins with brute force and above average play strength at the point of attack. Hovering around 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds, the Mississippi native utilizes his size, length and power exceptionally well, outleveraging opposing offensive linemen consistently off the line of scrimmage. Still somewhat raw in his movement skills, Wells will more than likely need a year or two to develop from a technical standpoint to maximize his potential as a staunch run defender that can continuously take on and defeat double teams. A better athlete than given credit for off the hoof, the Petal High School standout projects as a high-level impact starter at the Power Four level that will more than likely need a year or two of coaching before adding significant value at the collegiate level."

Wells was joined by his brother, Chris, a South Alabama commit, on the weekend trip to the Plains.

According to 247Sports, Auburn currently ranks 51st in the 2026 recruiting cycle.
