Huge Auburn injury news: Projected starter suffers major fall camp setback

Auburn coach Alex Golesh gave an update on two major pieces in Auburn's offense. One was not a good one.

With their game against Baylor just five weeks away, there are still position battles that are key for the Auburn Tigers this year. Especially figuring out who will be blocking for a disgruntled Jeremiah Cobb, who was just left off a College Football Report’s top 30 running backs list for 2026. Hopefully we can figure out this week who will be the starting five, but with some of the news today, some things did become clear.

They will have to wait for one of their rising stars, who they may get back halfway through the year. Golesh said underclassman Tai Buster “should be available halfway through the year.” It may be until at least Week 7 that we get a chance to see Buster, who was having a great spring and was poised with a chance to start.

Where this hurts is for Tai’s growth and getting actual time on the field. That will probably go to one of the upperclassmen like Jacob Strand, but that is still up in the air.

Golesh would specifically say, "It's unfortunate for him because he’s had an incredible summer and he’s working his tail off to get back."

But this doesn’t fully mean that Tai’s chances are completely gone; he could get to play when Auburn hosts LSU or when they go on the road to Ole Miss. That could be a huge pick-me-up for a team that will be digging deep at that part of the year.

Some good news after the bad

Golesh was asked about Stanton’s health and the importance of what he can show, while trying to figure out who the front five will be. He would open up about how Ramil’s summer went by saying:

“He’s been really really solid this summer, what’s cool about Stanton as he’s become more confident and ingrained into the locker room you’ve started to see some leadership ability and you can see why he was a team captain as a sophomore at the previous place, we need that in that room we need a sense of veteranness we need leadership and he’s done a really really good job with that.”

That is a good thing to hear when there is currently no certainty along the offensive front. Figuring out if Ramil would be able to play and be healthy would be a huge boost for this team, which is trying to prove the naysayers wrong. Golesh would further divulge about Stanton’s recovery, saying;

“His flexibility at tackle will be huge and us managing him the right way will be huge, when you don’t go through spring, that workload piece is different, even though they’re here all summer it’s just integrating him back into a workload, so we’ve got to be really smart especially early in camp, but really big for him.”

Golesh finally gave a clear answer, saying, “he feels healthy and feels strong.”

Hopefully, we will hear more good news about Stanton and others who will be crucial to Auburn’s season.
