Auburn got good news on the Jackson Arnold injury front ahead of A-Day before a setback midweek in practice. As 247 Sports' Nathan King notes, Arnold is being held out of the team's open scrimmage Saturday as a precaution.
More importantly, Arnold has the playbook down mentally and simply needs the muscle memory to make it real.
"Oklahoma transfer Jackson Arnold is dealing with a minor injury from this week's practices and is being held out as a precaution, Auburn Undercover has been informed," King wrote.
"Arnold sustained a minor leg injury during Thursday's practice, pulling up in the open field and grabbing at his leg. He quickly walked off under his own power, though, and exited practice early to the training room.
"Auburn Undercover was told the team has finished its playbook install already, so all that Arnold is missing out on is reps. Wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. is expected to be limited, as well, with a minor leg issue, and stars like Cam Coleman will not be used a significant amount, either. "
Deuce Knight is set to be the main beneficiary of that during A-Day. The Lucedale, Mississippi product has turned heads in practice, forming chemistry with Sam Turner and looking advanced as a true freshman.
There won't be as much attention as usual on the spring festivities, but the changes could end up being beneficial for a program that hasn't had much success in recent years anyway.
A dice roll at this point is harmless, especially as the sport shifts away from traditional spring games. Changing the format of the annual exhibition is an appropriate risk.
Evidently, sending Arnold to get those reps during an open practice in April following an injury isn't.
