Auburn offensive coordinator Joel Gordon could only speak to USF transfers having trouble getting up to speed in the SEC this season. What he said on Monday to explain the Tigers' struggles applies to many of the players who made the jump from a Group of Six conference, though.
Gordon told the media that players like Bulls transfer quarterback Byrum Brown are struggling to get up to speed, but it's "fixable."
"I think what has to happen is you have to see: 'I'm learning from my mistakes.' Things are moving quicker in this league," Gordon said. "... But it's fixable."
Gordon doesn't realize it, but that is the worst possible thing for an Auburn fan to hear right now.
Alex Golesh had just announced that the team suspended former LSU linebacker and breakout defensive star Xavier Atkins, one of the players most athletically capable of keeping up with No. 1 Georgia this Saturday, for behavior detrimental to the team.
If many of the guys who are suiting up, who played at a lower level last year, aren't up to speed during Dawgs week, is three possessions too small a spread for the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry?
This may get ugly Between the Hedges.
Auburn football is coming apart at the seams at a bad time
Ah man, not right now...
October is the toughest stretch of Auburn's season. After a road date with Georgia, a home matchup with LSU and a trip to The Grove on Halloween await.
Golesh's program can't come apart at the seams right now. Stealing one of these games is the key to a 7-5 finish.
The thought of carrying negative momentum into November, where an underrated Arkansas, a surprising and surging Mississippi State, and a very mighty Alabama team are on the schedule, strikes fear into the hearts of Auburn fans who may realize that four wins are a possibility in 2026. There are no sure things on this SEC slate.
Whatever is "fixable" about the Tigers needs to be fixed immediately. If the offensive line is fixable, that needs to be done as soon as possible to salvage this season. Brown and his receivers are doing as much as they can behind the poor protection.
Can you even blame Brown for trying to make things happen when the opportunities are few and far between behind that line? Of course, turnovers are going to happen with that protection.
Time and patience are running out with this fanbase. Some are compelled to wear paper bags on their faces at Jordan-Hare Stadium in protest.
Gordon may have accidentally put even more pressure on the entire team, since Auburn fans went to war with other fan bases in the offseason, believing that the USF transfers would be ready.
