Peyton Marshall committed to Auburn in December 2022 but was de-committed from the program by April 2023. As it turned out, there weren't minutes for the 300-pound seven-footer on the Plains with Johni Broome and Dylan Cardwell hoarding the majority of minutes at the center.

In 2025-26, that's not the case.

And wouldn't you know it, Marshall is in the transfer portal, having announced his departure from Missouri via social media on Sunday.

Marshall framed his departure as something that was in his best interests two years ago.

"First and foremost I would like to thank Bruce Pearl and the Auburn coaching staff," Marshall wrote, per the Montgomery Advertiser. "After news of recent coaching staff changes within the program and recent talks with the ones closest to me, it is within my best interest to re-open my recruitment."

Of note, though: Wes Flanigan was Marshall's primary recruiter.

"Wes has that kind of uncle, down-home personality," Marshall's mother said after his Auburn commitment. "(He's) very relatable. ... He just has a very good attitude. ... We just felt comfortable throughout the whole recruitment process talking to him on good days, bad days, good games, bad games. He never made us feel like it was just about him being a coach for Auburn, it was more like an old cliche saying, you've got a friend in me."

Flanigan is now an assistant coach at Ole Miss, having brought his son Allen with him from Auburn to Oxford.

If anything, Chris Beard's Rebels are the true team to watch for Marshall. It's still too early in Marshall's recruitment to know where he's heading. He didn't enter with a no-contact tag, meaning he hasn't yet made up his mind.

We just know Auburn has been on Marshall's radar before and there's a need for size in Bruce Pearl's frontcourt.
