Jordan-Hare Stadium sends clear message to Hugh Freeze after Auburn football loses to Vanderbilt
Many Auburn football fans have been fed up with Hugh Freeze throughout the 2024 season, but a good number of newcomers are hopping aboard the hate train. During the Tigers' 17-7 loss to Vanderbilt on November 2 that dropped them to 3-6 on the year, the crew at Jordan-Hare Stadium joined the cause.
As the clock was ticking down on yet another loss for AU as the favorite at home, Twisted Sister's 1984 chart-topper, "We're Not Gonna Take It," began playing on the loudspeakers. Several pointed it out on social media.
Message received.
For Freeze, the loss is personal. This is the third straight year Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia has defeated him. In 2022, Pavia led New Mexico State over Liberty. Last year, Pavia led New Mexico State over Auburn. This year, it was the Commodores that beat the Tigers with Pavia on the winning side and Freeze on the losing side yet again.
Pavia owns Freeze. Vanderbilt owns a 6-3 record and is going bowling for the first time since 2018. Freeze needs to own up to yet another loss that featured awful play-calling that drove fans nuts.
Hugh Freeze loses many Auburn football fans who have had his back until now
If you scroll through Twitter, you'll see fans who formerly supported Freeze due to his recruiting success concede that the Tigers can't have another year like this. The idea of Freeze staying as head coach until 2026 has been floated, but after losing by double-digits to Vanderbilt, many now see 2025 as his last chance.
Recruiting is the only reason Freeze isn't being let go as soon as tomorrow. A top-five class in 2025 and 2026 awaits and provides hope of escaping this malaise.
Well, it provides hope in some. Until Freeze is fired, the Tigers have lost some fans indefinitely. It appears the technical staff at Jordan-Hare Stadium are included in that group.
