Lane Kiffin's Saturday morning activities may prove heartbreaking by dusk for Ole Miss

Lane Kiffin may have gone through his Saturday morning activities one last time in Week 14 following his (for now) Ole Miss Rebels' 38-19 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the Egg Bowl on Friday afternoon.

As OutKick's Trey Wallace noted, Kiffin had a typical Saturday morning preparing his team for a potential SEC Championship Game next week against the Georgia Bulldogs, one only made possible by an Auburn Tigers Iron Bowl upset of the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday night.

"Lane Kiffin attended yoga, meeting with staff to go over a potential game plan for Georgia. Then, meeting with AD Keith Carter this afternoon, per Marty Smith. This is going to get interesting. Ole Miss has been working the phones for over 2 weeks regarding a replacement," Wallace wrote.

About that. LSU sources are “very confident” that Kiffin is going to accept the Tigers’ offer to take over, per The Athletic's Bruce Feldman. Kiffin may have done all this fully knowing he is going to accept LSU's offer next year.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio gave up Kiffin's game on Friday night, even if he wouldn't announce it outright.

"We’re told that Kiffin is lining up his coaching staff at LSU. It’s the kind of tidbit that quickly can spread on the coaching-industry grapevine, as folks agree to join someone’s staff — and as they decline the opportunity to do so," Florio said.

"It’s no surprise. If Kiffin is seriously thinking about going, he’ll need to start getting people in place. And it gives him a chance to get a clean slate, leaving behind the folks from the Ole Miss staff that he either doesn’t want, or the ones who want to remain.

"This isn’t a report that Kiffin is leaving. We’ll leave that one to whoever gets the spoon-fed scoop. But it’s true that, as of Friday night, Kiffin is putting the pieces in place in the event he makes the leap to LSU."

That announcement probably comes this afternoon after that fateful meeting with Ole Miss Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Keith Carter. A resolution will seemingly be had soon.

Unless...

Lane Kiffin could hold LSU up for Alabama's job

Wandering eyes Lane, who is not to be referred to as a long-handled gardening tool with a thin metal blade, may not even be satisfied with LSU if/when he gets there. Remember, he once had eyes for Alabama, and it's the one team they said he'd leave Ole Miss for.

By that logic, why wouldn't it be the team he'd leave LSU for as well?

Auburn can give Kiffin a chance to leave Baton Rouge before ever arriving if Kalen DeBoer feels the backlash will be too much and he bolts for the Penn State Nittany Lions or another job.
