LSU will see EDGE Princewill Umanmielen's return to the field this coming Saturday after his name was not on the injury report for the Auburn game.
Alex Golesh, Joel Gordon, and Tyler Hudanick must now prepare for a physical freak with a 4.7-second 40-yard dash and an elite bend on Blake Baker's defense.
The Ole Miss transfer Umanmielen immediately puts one of Golesh's recent big decisions to the test.
Jacob Strand, who was formerly playing in the interior earlier this season, has gotten significant snaps at left tackle of late. He and Jo Simmons have a massive test this coming week against Umanmielen, who was previously questionable after missing most of the game against Mississippi State with an upper-body injury.
Alex Golesh understands the challenge LSU is on the edge
As Golesh said about LSU, "Those edges are real, like real real."
Not only is Umanmielen a handful, but Tennessee transfer Jordan Ross is also elite. Ross had six tackles and a sack against State this past Saturday. Ross has three sacks this year, which ranks third behind defensive tackle Deuce Geralds's five and Umanmielen's eight.
The group is even playing without Gabriel Reliford, who tore his ACL in the spring. The roster Lane Kiffin recruited has an embarrassment of riches in Baton Rouge.
We'll see if the Auburn offensive line is ready to protect quarterback Byrum Brown against it. Stanton Ramil graded out as an 80 on the right edge against Georgia in the epic Deep South's Oldest Rivalry upset. The interior held up remarkably well, with Wilson Zierer and Kenneth McManus taking starter snaps.
Auburn's run game has breakout chance against LSU
Umanmielen isn't as renowned against the run. With that said, LSU's defense is better overall against the run than the pass.
Brown and Jeremiah Cobb showed out against the Dawgs with their best outings of the season. Auburn's run game could have a symbiotic effect with the Jordan-Hare Stadium crowd and keep the pressure on LSU's defense.
If you're looking for ways to nab an upset on Saturday and prove the Plains is haunted for favored opponents, controlling the clock is one of the most obvious.
Brown is the ultimate wild card for Auburn. If he can keep LSU's defense guessing, opening up running lanes in the middle for Auburn when LSU's linebackers drop into coverage, perhaps Cobb, Omar Mabson, and the rest of the running backs could be difference-makers in a pivotal SEC clash.
