Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor will miss the Auburn game on November 14 and the rest of the season. While the loss makes the Tigers' schedule easier, it robs college football of one of the game's great dual-threat playmakers behind center.
Per ESPN's Pete Thamel on Tuesday, "Mississippi State star QB Kamario Taylor will miss the rest of the season, as he faces surgery on his injured toe. Taylor has an appointment today to get his toe checked out by a specialist and could have surgery as early as tomorrow. He’s expected to make a full recovery."
The Bulldogs have come crashing down after a 4-0 start that Taylor powered.
Losing big to Alabama gave way to being shut out in Baton Rouge against LSU without Taylor. The star quarterback decided to rest his turf toe, which he had suffered in the Missouri game weeks earlier.
This past weekend's loss to Oklahoma at home was the end of Mississippi State's CFP hopes, but also a turning point for this season. The Bulldogs no longer have their most important player, who many suspect could be one of the biggest names in the transfer portal.
If Mississippi State's medical staff mismanaged this injury at all, perhaps it's only a matter of time before Taylor is suiting up elsewhere.
Just saying, orange and blue would suit him well. Imagine Taylor running the veer-and-shoot under Alex Golesh next year?
Mississippi State becomes easier challenge for Auburn without Taylor
Redshirt freshman Parker Puckett has a steep learning curve ahead with Taylor out. It's not impossible that he'll have mastered Jeff Lebby's offense by the time Auburn heads to Starkville. It's just not the likeliest outcome.
There's a serious opening here on the schedule for the Tigers. It was already set to be a mild November that followed a brutal October, and Auburn is at least escaping with a win over Georgia.
Ryan Silverfield has not been a quick study at Arkansas.
The Samford game may as well be a rest week.
Alabama even looks more vulnerable than previously thought.
With State now operating at far less than 100% without Taylor, the road to seven wins is clear for AU. Maybe even eight.
