Nick Saban accepting Auburn Tigers football coaching job deemed 'unlikely but not impossible'

For some reason, Nick Saban's name is being connected to the Auburn Tigers football head coach position, which, of course, is not currently available. Hugh Freeze is heading into his third season on a recruiting heater, but with his seat to the fire.

If Freeze falters in 2025, and in light of Greg McElroy claiming Saban can return to coaching, multiple writers are connecting the Alabama Crimson Tide G.O.A.T. with their Iron Bowl rival in the Loveliest Village on the Plains.

"The idea of Saban accepting a job at Auburn seems unlikely—but not impossible. If Freeze can’t deliver results this season, Auburn may look to make a change, potentially opening the door for Saban to make a shocking return to the sidelines," the Sporting News's Hunter Cookston wrote.

“With Saban set to turn 74 years old this year, it would be understandable if he doesn’t want to uproot his life and move to another city far away if he returns to the sidelines. And as mentioned above, maybe Alabama ends up giving DeBoer at least four seasons to keep his job. That could make Auburn a perfect landing spot for Saban,” Sportsnaut's Jason Burgos wrote.

This will not happen. Under any circumstances.

Not because John Cohen would say no, though he's not even in a position where he's looking to rush Freeze out the door. He certainly would look to round up as much NIL funding from the donor base as possible if the opportunity ever arose.

Saban himself would never risk the relationship he has with the University of Alabama.

As an advisor to Kalen DeBoer's program, Saban would lose the salary he's collecting, and the office he has at Bryant-Denny Stadium, for a job that is far from guaranteed to produce anywhere near the results he had in Tuscaloosa.

Nope. Never. Not happening.
