The question had to be asked. Following Auburn's season-opening victory over Baylor, a picture of wide receiver Cam Coleman appeared showing he was wearing two watches on the same wrist.
So, why did the sophomore make that fashion decision?
"This is the truth," Coleman said after Auburn's 31-15 victory over South Alabama. "I had one watch on, and then I looked at my left wrist, all of that was kind of empty, so I just threw another one on. We were trying to play today, but the refs told us we couldn't wear them anymore, so I was like, ' Wow. '"
Without a watch on, Coleman still made an impact in the Tigers' victory that sent them to 3-0 heading into SEC play, catching two passes for 49 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown catch that capped a 12-play, 92-yard drive on Auburn's opening possession of the game.
Jackson Arnold threw it up for the sophomore, who was able to beat his defender and jump over him for the catch.
"It felt good," Coleman said. "I saw the safety, and I just knew the opportunity was gonna show itself and just make the best of every opportunity."
Coleman hasn't had the start that many expected for the 2025 season. Saturday's touchdown catch was his first of the year, and with Auburn focusing on running the ball in two of the three games, he has just 10 receptions for 149 yards. That hasn't stopped Coleman and his fellow receivers from getting out of rhythm when on the field.
"I do what I gotta do to get my team to win, you know what I'm saying?" he said. "I block safeties when I have to, so really it's not about getting me in the rhythm, it's about just doing what it does to get the team to win."
As for where he's seen him grow as a receiver in his second season of college football, Coleman talks about the amount of time he puts into studying the game.
"I feel like I'm more comfortable with the playbook," he said. "So it allows me to play faster and really just seeing coverages more and understanding how to run routes, all different coverages. So yeah, that's really where my most growth is at."
