OutKick shares prediction on how long Hugh Freeze has left with Auburn football
OutKick's Trey Wallace predicts Hugh Freeze will survive the offseason with Auburn football, but sees 2025 as a make-or-break season for the Tigers head coach's tenure on the Plains; given his 9-13 overall record at AU.
"I'll say this, Freeze is giving the Auburn administration a lot of headaches when it comes to deciding on the future. I'm not implying that Hugh is gone after this season, because he's going to get one more season to pull the Tigers out of the gutter, but that's it. He needs to find a transfer portal quarterback to come in and lead this team to enough wins next season to secure a future on the Plains with Duece Knight," Wallace wrote.
247Sports' Phillip Marshall reports that Freeze will get a third and fourth year in 2025 and 2026.
"He will get a third year and a fourth year," Marshall said on October 19.
"What I know is that his bosses are all in," he added. "They recognize the total cluster he inherited and the way he is recruiting."
Hugh Freeze's recruiting performance has Auburn football hanging onto him by a thread
Freeze has recruited his way out of an early firing. AU would fire Freeze in any other point in history. He should be thanking his lucky stars every day that Bryan Harsin was the Tigers' head coach before him.
As long as the 2025 class holds up, he'll return next fall. At this point, given how low the valleys have been, and how sparse the peaks have been, being guaranteed a 2026 season isn't likely.
Auburn structured his contract to soften the blow of yet another buyout. Freeze won't stay if recruiting falls apart. Rather, he won't be allowed to stay.
For the fanbase's sanity, recruiting cannot fall apart under Freeze. But there's no guarantee it won't get worse.
