Auburn football defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett will join the staff of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL
After the official hiring of DJ Durkin earlier this week, everyone thought that Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze had completed his second-year staff. Between staffers being fired or stepping down, a number of new faces have been brought in to fill the gaps.
However, now there is one more gap to be filled. It was reported this weekend that Auburn football defensive line coach Jeremy Garrett would be parting ways with the Auburn football program to take the same position with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL.
Garrett arrived on the Plains in December of 2022, one of the earlier hires made by Freeze after being named head coach at Auburn. Prior to his stint with the Tigers, Garrett had an outstanding year as the DL coach at Liberty in 2022 after two years as an assistant defensive line coach with the Cleveland Browns from 2020 to 2021.
Before working with the Browns, Garrett gained coaching experience working with Vanderbilt, Ensworth High School in Nashville, Tennessee, and Southaven High School in Southaven, Mississippi. A native of Mississippi, Garrett was a defensive lineman for Ole Miss from 2004 to 2007. He overlapped with Freeze, who was the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator for the Rebels from 2006 to 2007.
Garrett spent only one season on the Plains after which the Tigers' defense was ranked No. 45 in the country, allowing 357.2 yards per game. Auburn football's defense also finished in the top 50 in tackles for loss and sacks.
The loss of Garrett is a hit on the recruiting end, as the Tigers have an elite group of defensive linemen committed in the recruiting class of 2025 and Auburn football desperately needs them to remain committed. Hiring a good replacement will be vital for the Tigers.
