Auburn football transfer portal updates: Tigers add two more defensive pieces
Transfer portal updates for the Auburn football program in week two of the spring window
So far, the Auburn football program has been making moves in the transfer portal. There were several key areas that head coach Hugh Freeze mentioned wanting to fill after the A-Day game, and he and his coaching staff have put in the work to fix the problems.
In a span of 24 hours, the Tigers added three new commits to the 2024 roster. The first of the three was former Indiana defensive lineman Philip Blidi, whose addition you can read about in this edition of Auburn Tigers News.
Then came two more defensive prospects to follow up Blidi's commitment. Defensive lineman Isaiah Raikes committed to the Tigers early on Monday. The DL spent four years at Texas A&M before entering the transfer portal following the 2023 season. He visited Auburn in January, but chose to commit to USC. He re-entered the portal in April when the spring window opened and has now committed to Freeze and the Tigers.
In his four years as an Aggie, Raikes racked up 43 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He will be another experience veteran presence on the defensive line as the Tigers continue to try to shore things up after the departure of Marcus Harris.
The third commitment was that of former Arkansas State edge Keyron Crawford. He visited the Plains earlier this week, his only visit since entering the transfer portal, and knew that Auburn was the place for him. In two seasons with the Red Wolves, Crawford racked up a whopping 59 total tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
In the midst of all the additions, a third Auburn football elected to enter the transfer portal. A 4-star linebacker out of high school, Wesley Steiner played four years on the Plains and logged 86 total tackles and two tackles for loss. His contributions in the linebacker rotation had begun to lessen, and it will not hugely impact the room.
