In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, the Auburn softball team picked up a series win over rival Alabama and Auburn football offers a 2025 running back
It was a pretty good weekend for the Auburn softball team. Their series against rival Alabama kicked off Thursday night with a 4-3 win over the Tide and a solid pitching performance from right-handed Maddie Penta.
Friday's game was a tough one, stretching out over 11 innings, but ultimately the Tigers fell 0-2 in the second matchup of the series. But Auburn rallied when it mattered, taking down Alabama 3-0 on Saturday behind the arm of Annabelle Widra, who pitched her first shutout in SEC play. She recorded a season-high seven strikeouts and the Tigers knocked down six hits in the game.
Next up for Auburn softball is the SEC Tournament, which will be hosted at Jane B. Moore field this week beginning on Tuesday, May 7.
Auburn football offers 2025 running back
The recruiting continues for Auburn football as the team prepares for summer workouts. Over the weekend, Auburn football running backs coach Derrick Nix headed to Georgia to visit 3-star running back JP Powell and personally extend him an offer from the Tigers.
The RB's recruitment has picked up recently, with offers from Ole Miss, Florida State, Mississippi State, and others in addition to Auburn football. He plans to officially visit Georgia Tech and Mississippi State this summer and a trip to the Plains is in the works.
"Absolutely looking forward to visiting Auburn," Powell said, per Auburn Rivals. "That’s one school that is somewhat close to home that I have not visited yet... they have a great reputation as an institution."
With offers still coming for Powell, there is no timeline on his decision, but Derrick Nix is making sure to keep the Tigers at the top of the list for the 2025 running back.
