Auburn Tigers News: GA Tech commit sets Big Cat visit, Hugh Freeze on improving in year 2
In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, a Georgia Tech wide receiver commit RSVP's for Big Cat Weekend and Hugh Freeze talks about improving from year one to year two on the Plains
Earlier this week, Auburn Live confirmed that 3-star Georgia Tech commit Sam Turner will visit the Plains on July 27 for Big Cat Weekend, the biggest Auburn football recruiting event of the summer.
From Decatur, Georgia, Turner is ranked as the #74 wide receiver in the recruiting class of 2025 and is the #54 recruit out of the Peach State. He committed to Georgia Tech on June 9, but after putting on strong performances in camps he earned an offer from Auburn football later that month.
His Big Cat Weekend visit will be his second trip to the Plains, and he has taken official visits to both Georgia Tech and BYU. A strong push from the Tigers could be enough to get a flip from Sam Turner.
Hugh Freeze talks about improving from year one to year two
Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze is hoping fans will see an improved team in his second year on the Plains but has continued to emphasize the fact that a lot of the talent on the roster is very young. Still, after three years of losing records and a first year under Freeze that ended in immense disappointment, fans are ready for imrovement.
While he cannot guarantee how talent will translate to on-field success, Freeze maintains that the Tigers leveled up their roster during the offseason and that the chemistry between the coaching staff is much better than last season, which points to a better game plan heading into the 2024 season.
“I think if you look at my track record everywhere … we’ve had pretty good jumps from year one to year two,” said Freeze, per Auburn Rivals. “I can’t speak for other programs and how they did it, but for us in our building right now there’s a sense of chemistry that I think is breeding some confidence in our players. I just sense there’s a more confident football team. There’s no doubt I’m more comfortable.
“I have told y’all this a hundred times and I’m not being negative towards anyone, but I’m more comfortable with the building. That hopefully breeds confidence in our team and we can play really well at critical positions and on critical downs and we see that improvement we’re talking about.”
The Tigers will kick off their 2024 season on August 31 when they host Alabama A&M at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
