In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, we break down which players are participating in Auburn football's Pro Day and Bruce Pearl shares his thoughts on the tournament opener
It's Pro Day for the Auburn football team, which means players that are hoping to take their career to the next level will have the opportunity to meet with and showcase their skills to NFL scouts alongside their teammates.
Last year's Pro Day featured Auburn legend Cam Newton showing up to throw to his brother, Caylin Newton, alongside Holden Geriner. This year, according to the Montgomery Advertiser, over 15 Auburn football players will be participating in the event:
Hayden Brice/OLB
Gunner Britton/OT
Marcus Harris/DL
Shane Hooks/WR
D.J. James/CB
Avery Jones/OL
Mosiah Nasili-Kite/DL
Nick Mardner/WR
Elijah McAllister/OLB
Larry Nixon/LB
Nehemiah Pritchett/CB
Zion Puckett/S
Jacob Quattlebaum/LS
Justin Rogers/DL
Jaylin Simpson/DB
Kam Stutts/OL
Kassidy Woods/WR
Every NFL team except for the Buffalo Bills has representatives on the Plains today, and it is a big opportunity for the players to prove their worth to the league.
Bruce Pearl shares his thoughts on the tournament opener
It's also a big day for the Auburn basketball program, who will be facing off against Yale all the way across the country this afternoon to open their run in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers landed a spot in one of the most competitive regions in the country this year, one that includes four conference tournament winners and the overall No. 1 seed UConn.
The Tigers are coming in hot after winning the SEC Tournament, and are looking to keep on winning. Head coach Bruce Pearl spoke to the media earlier this week in Spokane, Washington, and noted that winning this game would not be a cakewalk for his team.
"They’re really, really hard to cover. With their five-out offense, it’s very, very — it’s a unique offense and it’s something that we see some but don’t see a ton," said Pearl, per Auburn Live. "Probably the area that Yale would be the most underrated is their defense and their rebounding. They’re a real solid defensive team. They play at one of the slower paces in the country, but part of the reason is because they will take good shots on the offensive end, which sometimes could take some time, but what people don’t appreciate is the fact that it takes you awhile with your offense to get a good shot because they’re so solid defensively. So we know that we’ll have to play well to win."
Despite some tough losses this season, like road losses to Alabama and Florida and a beating from Kentucky at home, Pearl says his Tigers are playing their best basketball down the stretch. Let's hope the trend continues.
Yale and Auburn basketball will tipoff this afternoon at 3:15 central time from Spokane Arena.
