In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, the softball team has received their regional draw, and Cam Coleman impacts the Tigers on and off the field
After a heartbreaking loss in the SEC tournament, the Auburn softball team received their regional draw during selection on Sunday night and will head to a venue that is familiar to head coach Mickey Dean. The Tigers will head to Tallahassee for the Florida State regional and are the No. 2 seed.
They will kick things off Friday night against No. 3 UCF while No. 4 Chattanooga will take on No. 1 Florida State. Should they make it out of the Florida State regional, the Tigers will play the winner of the Normal regional.
Auburn softball finished their season 27-19-1 and will face UCF at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 17.
Cam Coleman impacts the Tigers on and off the field
One of the biggest recruiting priorities for head coach Hugh Freeze and the Auburn football program during the 2024 cycle was earning the commitment of 5-star wide receiver Cam Coleman. Though he originally committed to Texas A&M in a suprise move over the summer, the firing of former Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher forced Coleman to reconsider, and soon he was officially an Auburn Tiger.
While his talent on the field is explanation enough for the hype surrounding the true freshman, On3's Phillip Dukes explains that Coleman brings more to the table.
“(Coleman) is also one of the types of guys that he’s not going to say a whole lot but, when he does say something, people listen. He’s going to be a guy that impacts the locker room because of how he plays and how he carries himself,” Dukes said. “When you’re able to command respect at a young age, that’s not just for that year. That sets the template, that sets the kind of momentum going forward, and sets the culture for what’s to come. I think Cam Coleman was not just a great on-field addition but what he adds off the field is going to be amazing.”
There are plenty of new faces in the Tigers' wide receivers room heading into this season, but Coleman has been lauded as a guy who can set Auburn football up to compete for championships.
