In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, the NCAA transfer portal has officially reopened and the Auburn football program is making moves
It's day one of the spring window of the NCAA transfer portal, and there is already movement from the Auburn football program. For the next 15 days, from April 16-30, football players can enter the transfer portal and shop around for another home.
The first portal entry took place this morning when defensive lineman Brenton Williams entered after one year on the Plains. From Opelika, AL, just minutes down the road from Auburn, Williams redshirted his freshman year and saw game action in two contests last season.
Back in March it was confirmed that JD Rhym was no longer part of Auburn football and would be expected to enter the transfer portal when it opened but he does not yet appear in the 247 Sports Transfer Portal database.
Hugh Freeze said after the spring A-Day game that there were still spots on the roster and that he'd like to fill them with more wide receivers and defensive linemen, so seeing players from those position groups enter in the coming days should not be a surprise.
According to AL.com, the Tigers have already "expressed interest in" multiple players in the portal. One is former Ohio State running back Dallan Hayden, a junior who played two seasons for the Buckeyes and racked up 663 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
Another is former Penn State wide receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith, a junior who spent the last four seasons as a Nittany Lion. He led the team in receptions and receiving yards in the 2023 season, and over his 48-game career recorded 126 receptions for 1,721 yards and 11 touchdowns.
There are 15 days for players to decide to enter the portal, so keep an eye out for more Auburn football players heading to new destinations.
