In today's edition of Auburn Tigers News, the women's basketball team knocks off defending national champions LSU and the football team adds another transfer from the portal

It was a massive weekend for the Auburn women's basketball team, who took down #4 LSU, the defending national champions, in front of the largest attendance in Neville Arena history. The 67-62 victory was the first SEC win of the Tigers' season and ended LSU's 16-game winning streak.

Honesty Scott-Grayson and JaMya Mingo-Young were the Tigers' double-digit scorers, and they led the charge to get the first Top 10 win since the 2022 season. Head coach Johnnie Harris said the key was fighting for the win, per Auburn Undercover:

“I just thought my team came out and fought,” Harris said. “They have been right there. Other than the third quarter in the Texas A&M game, I feel like we have been right there. They prepared well. They played hard. We had a really good scouting report. They executed it. The thing we told them is you’ve got to come out and you’ve got to be tough. You’ve got to fight. You can’t come out on your heels, you have to get them on their heels. I think we did that.”

Auburn football adds another transfer from the portal

The Auburn Tigers got a big win in the transfer portal today with the addition of former Texas safety Jerrin Thompson. He spent four years with the Longhorns and started 20 of the 35 contests in which he played.

After four seasons, Thompson logged 176 total tackles and four tackles for loss, five interceptions, 23 passes deflected, and one forced fumble. He is a massive addition to the Tigers' secondary, which is losing a majority of its experience heading into the 2024 season. With Nehemiah Pritchett, DJ James, and Jaylin Simpson all headed to the NFL, Thompson has the potential to take on the role of a senior leader that the group will need.
