One Notre Dame writer believes in the latest Auburn football-related Fong Bomb from On3's Steve Wiltfong projecting Deuce Knight to flip to the Plains -- that being On SI's Nick Shepkowski, who sounds resigned to the fact that Knight and the Fighting Irish will have no future union in 2025.

Shepkowski says it could happen in the coming days.

"If I had to guess right now I would say that a Deuce Knight flip to Auburn is very likely coming in a matter of days," Shepkowski prefaced before saying, "That's not my reporting, that's me simply seeing one of the most respected college football recruiting insiders putting out that predicition and knowing Wiltfong isn't simply just making that up for clicks and that when he makes a prediction, he hits on over 90% of them for a reason."

Hugh Freeze landing a blue-chip QB in 2025 would give him two straight classes with a 4-star signal-caller. His recruiting success has some referring to him as the "new blueprint for success in college football."

The proof of concept caveat is present here again, as it is with any future recruit given the frequency of flips in the NIL era, but the Mississippi Gulf Coast star from George County High School is a big fish that has the entire Notre Dame fanbase worried about Marcus Freeman's future.

Meanwhile, AU fans are living blissfully as Freeze continues a dominant run on the trail. No need to rain on that parade.

Deuce Knight is a critical get for Auburn football future

Knight will be in the best position to start right away given the fact that he was brought on by Freeze and his hand-picked QB coach, Kent Austin; a Liberty-era staple for Freeze who followed him to Auburn, not to mention with input from a hand-picked offensive coordinator in Derrick Nix.

The future in 2025 -- if Freeze doesn't finally drop big money on a transfer portal -- could heavily involve Knight at the most important position on the field.

It's been a flurry of recruiting gets in July and August. It's hard to believe Mr. Freeze and Co. are done just yet.
