KY Sports Radio's Matt Jones believes Kentucky doesn't even need to be that good to have the ability to beat South Carolina and Auburn football during the 2024 season; this being part of a pie-in-the-sky rant about how the Wildcats can make the 12-team College Football Playoff with nine wins.

"It's not crazy, okay, it's not crazy. Here's why," Jones prefaced before saying, "Our non-conference game against Louisville is gonna look really good. Because Louisville is gonna be good this year. They're not gonna be great, but they're gonna be good. Let's just assume we beat the three stinky teams. And let's assume we beat Vandy. In my opinion, you got eight games you got to win. Five to go to a playoff.

I think if Kentucky, with their current schedule: going to Texas, going to Ole Miss, playing Georgia, playing Louisville. If you won nine, I think you'd get in. So how do you win nine? Alright, beat South Carolina at home, yep. Now we're at five. Beat Auburn at home. Now we're at six. I don't think we have to be that good to do those things."

Certainly, South Carolina could surprise with either LaNorris Sellers or former Tigers QB1 Robby Ashford. For all we know, the Gamecocks could belong in the same group as Auburn: not being dismissed by a Kentucky analyst thinking their an easy win.

The work Auburn put in this offseason on the recruiting trail should qualify them for more respect than this, though, even if not everyone brought on will make a tangible impact in 2024,

Kentucky's Brock Vandagriff was an Auburn football transfer portal QB target

Once upon a time, Kentucky QB1 Brock Vandagriff was projected to be an Auburn Tiger via the transfer portal. Instead, the Wildcats landed him and Hugh Freeze scoffed at the idea of spending a million dollars on a portal QB.

Vandagriff probably wasn't a million dollars, but he wasn't cheap either having two championship rings on his hand from his stint with Georgia.

Vandagriff has the chance to make the Tigers feel FOMO sticking with Payton Thorne instead of nabbing a QB with pro comps to Jarrett Stidham when the two programs meet on October 26 at Kroger Field.

Auburn has just as good, if not an outright better chance to make Jones eat these words in a few months' time too.
