Sean Payton takes shot at Auburn football after Bo Nix propels Broncos to first win
Sean Payton took a shot at Auburn football after Bo Nix (263 all-purpose yards, one touchdown) led the Denver Broncos to their first win of the 2024 season; a 26-7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.
Payton insinuated that Nix had to get through his time on the Plains, making him as confident as he is today.
"No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, stop, stop, it's fitting your narrative," Payton said when asked if he saw a different confidence level in Nix on September 22 (h/t DNVR's Zac Stevens). "Stop. Kid's been confident. Kid's been through Auburn, he's transferred. He's won and won and won and won and honestly, I haven't seen him flinch. He hasn't flinched."
Nix had a tough time with the Tigers, claiming he had it better at Oregon. He even admitted to being "miserable" during his only season at Auburn under Bryan Harsin.
"Last year, I was just kind of over it," Nix said to CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd. "Each week it was something else. There was, quite frankly, nothing I could do about it. I just remember kind of being miserable. It wasn’t fun anymore.”
Bo Nix slowly bringing the Broncos along in 2024
Nix has steadily brought his game together through the first three games of the Broncos' season. While he still isn't a top-half-of-the-league QB, he's slowly approaching that with his ability to break defensive gameplans with his legs.
Nix is the Broncos' hope after eight years of missing the postseason. The win in Tampa should inspire hope that he can change the downtrodden franchise's fortunes sooner than later.
