Warren Sapp goes scorched earth on Auburn football legend: 'Just being an a**'
Warren Sapp went scorched earth on Auburn football legend Cam Newton -- who's been highly critical of NFC Championship quarterback Brock Purdy in recent weeks and ranked him as the 10th best player on the San Francisco 49ers --, calling him a "glorified running back" and claiming he's been acting like a, well, let's donkey.
“Cam is just being an a**,” said Sapp during an appearance on Jason Whitlock's "Fearless" podcast (h/t Pro Football Network). “I don’t know why, but he is. I don’t know why Cam is so angry … If you wasn’t that guy, let’s not get on these podcasts talking like you was that guy. Cam, you were a glorified running back, son."
Newton accused Purdy, as well as Dak Prescott, Tua Tagovailoa, and Jared Goff, of being game-managers instead of being game-changers.
“Brock, they’re not winning because of him,” said Newton. “He’s managing the game. Purdy, Tua Tagovailoa, Jared Goff, and Dak Prescott — these are game managers. They’re not difference-makers. They don’t have to score every time … If we’re really going to call a spade a spade, a game manager is different than a game changer.”
Warren Sapp just being an a** for comments about Auburn football legend Cam Newton
Sapp calling Newton names and sticking up for Purdy is nothing to get worked up about. But the absolute blasphemy he followed it up with, likely to get Whitlock a ratings bump since no one being genuine would say such a thing, all but cancelled out the sentiment entirely.
If Newton is wrong about Purdy, say that. Once the messenger's credibility is attacked, the attacker is the one who loses the credibility.
Sapp may have started this beef with Newton to keep him occupied after the University of Colorado seemingly passed up on him as an assistant coach for Deion Sanders. We shall see how Superman responds.
