The Auburn Tigers picked up their third win of the season over the weekend, defeating the South Alabama Jaguars 31-15 in the first-ever matchup between the two teams.
Throughout the game, one position group stood out among the rest for a dominant performance, and that was the offensive line. Since he arrived on the Plains several years ago, it was a top priority and a big task for Hugh Freeze to improve the Tigers' offensive line, and the fruits of his labor seem to finally be paying off with an outstanding group of linemen.
Here are several quotes of note from players on both sides of the ball and Coach Freeze about the performance of the offensive line this past Saturday.
OL Jeremiah Wright on the biggest improvements he's seen from his position group: "Just communicating and then in the pass game just keeping the pocket clean. I think we did a better job today with the width and the depth of the pocket. Still have to fix a few technique problems, but everything else we did better today."
QB Jackson Arnold on the offensive line's performance: "I thought today, they played their butts off again. Fantastic in the running game, fantastic in the passing game. They were heating us up a good amount, and they picked up blitzes phenomenally. Says we got sacked one time. They did a phenomenal job today. I'm proud of them."
Head coach Hugh Freeze's assessment of the OL: "I thought today, they played their butts off again. Fantastic in the running game, fantastic in the passing game. They were heating us up a good amount, and they picked up blitzes phenomenally. Says we got sacked one time. They did a phenomenal job today. I'm proud of them."
WR Cam Coleman on the OL's success this week: "Yes, sir, the preparation. I see them boys every day, just grinding it out with the scout team. And I knew they're gonna take care of their business."
The Tigers return to action next weekend when they open SEC play against Oklahoma on the road.
