Auburn football head coach Hugh Freeze discusses the Tigers' win over Kentucky and their matchup with Vanderbilt this weekend

The Auburn football team got a big win over the weekend, beating the Kentucky Wildcats to pick up their first conference W. Jarquez Hunter's historic run game put two touchdowns on the board for Auburn, and the defense had a strong performance throughout the game, keeping the Wildcats out of the endzone multiple times.

For head coach Hugh Freeze and his players, it was a relief. After weeks of disappointment and losing games that the Tigers ought to have won, it was a great feeling to finally pick up a win. Freeze spoke with the media after the game to react to the big win.

On finally winning a game after four straight losses, per Auburn Rivals:

β€œMan. Just thank the good Lord. We've obviously had our chances to win a lot of football games this year and for whatever reason, lack of confidence or not making the right call or not making the right play or things just haven't gone our way. And tonight our kids found a way to win and I just couldn't be happier for them.”

On quarterback Payton Thorne's performance, per Auburn Undercover:

"We called things he was really comfortable with that we felt like we could protect at times the interception, truthfully the route should have been shaved back to the ball better. And so I know it always shows up on the quarterbacks and everything and sometimes it is them, but I thought that route could have been run differently. But we're playing a lot of young kids and they do that sometimes. But I thought Peyton tonight, other than the last play before half was really, really solid and thought he played winning football for the most part."

On Auburn fans traveling to Lexington, per Auburn Undercover:

"For the Auburn family, we have the greatest fan base, the greatest fans, the greatest administration. Everybody's so supportive even in a year where it's been disappointing at times and just couldn't be more thankful."

The Tigers will return to action in Jordan-Hare Stadium this Saturday against Vanderbilt at 11:45 a.m.
