It was a great weekend for Auburn football recruiting as the Tigers added a 4-star wide receiver to their 2026 ranks. On Friday evening, Jase Mathews announced his commitment to Auburn, becoming the first wide receiver in the Tigers' class of 2026.

From Leakesville, Mississippi, Mathews is ranked as the No. 13 wide receiver in his class and the No. 6 recruit out of his home state. Mathews chose Auburn over his other finalists, which included Ole Miss, Texas A&M and LSU, but he did so after trolling the Ole Miss fans in the room as you can see in the video below.

Auburn football wide receivers coach Marcus Davis led the charge in Mathews' recruitment alongside offensive coordinator Derrick Nix, and Mathews has built strong relationships with the pair and head coach Hugh Freeze.

"He's an amazing guy," Mathews said previously of Davis, per Auburn Undercover. "Getting to talk with him about football and things outside of football too, it's just making our relationship 10 times better. Seeing the relationship I built with the coaching staff and getting to speak with Coach Freeze, it's just been great. Coach Freeze, he's a guy that's brought me close and gave me a message about life more than football. It's been helping me continue my football journey."

Another draw to the Plains for Mathews was his relationship with freshman quarterback Deuce Knight, who is also from Mississippi. The pair were rivals in high school and will now play for the same team in college.

Mathews is the 12th commit for the Tigers in their recruiting class of 2026, which is ranked No. 54 overall after the addition of the wide receiver.
