SEC head coach throws shade at Alex Golesh's offense while discussing Cam Coleman

The fellow SEC head coach doesn't seem to be a fan of the offensive system Alex Golesh will run at Auburn

Cam Coleman had a choice to make after two seasons at Auburn: stay with the Tigers and take a chance on a new head coach, or enter the transfer portal as the No. 1 wide receiver and have offers thrown from top-tier schools throughout the nation.

The Phenix City, Ala., native chose the latter and will suit up for the Texas Longhorns during the 2026 season. When asked about the star receiver, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian had a great response, but then maybe threw a little shade at new Auburn head coach Alex Golesh at the end.

"What an awesome individual,” Sarkisian said. “This kid is an awesome kid, and he hasn't disappointed since he's arrived.

"This guy's going for it. He came here with real intentions. He wants to compete for a national championship, and he wants to put himself in the best position to get ready for the NFL. He came to a pro-style offense for a reason."

Steve Sarkisian takes a dig at Alex Golesh's offensive system

Covering Auburn the past two seasons, I can confidently say that Coleman is exactly what his new head coach says: a great kid who has all the potential in the world to go on and become a star in the NFL. And saying that he now enters a pro-style offense is correct, especially after the struggles of Auburn’s offense under Hugh Freeze and his run-pass option scheme that he likes to use.

But Golesh and new Auburn offensive coordinator Joel Gordon aren’t exactly slouches, nor is the play of Byrum Brown, who transferred from USF, following Golesh and Gordon from Tampa. For the Bulls last season, Brown threw for 3,158 yards and 28 touchdowns, two more scores than Arch Manning, who will now be throwing to Coleman in Austin.

Coleman will likely have a huge year with the Longhorns, but there’s no reason he wouldn’t have been just as productive had he stayed on the Plains.
