Cam Coleman dropped a bombshell on the Auburn Tigers faithful right before the start of the new year with his Monday afternoon announcement that he intended to enter the Transfer Portal after two seasons on the Plains.
Not long after that, some opposing fanbases felt his next step was clear: Coleman was choosing their team. After being linked to the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes following the conclusion of the regular season, the TAMU Aggies, the school he initially committed to while still with the Central Red Devils in Phenix City, have emerged as a potential mulligan option.
Texas A&M Aggies On SI's Aaron Raley believes Coleman may have been convinced by his Kyle Field gameday experience this past September during Auburn's 16-10 loss in College Station to join the 12th Man. Raley likes Coleman slotting into the role KC Concepcion is leaving behind for the NFL.
"(Coleman) has also been noted for his run after catch notability, something that KC Concepcion built his name on during his lone season in College Station," Raley prefaced before saying, "The chemistry is there. Before Auburn, it was Texas A&M for Cam Coleman. Who's to say if his feelings for A&M have changed or not, especially after seeing Kyle Field in a game day setting this past season."
Ohio State, Texas, TAMU could steal Cam Coleman from Auburn for one simple reason
Every option that has popped up for Coleman is a financially well-endowed one. Coleman was the second-highest rated prospect in the 2024 recruiting class behind Jeremiah Smith, and schools are willing to pony up to see if Auburn's quarterback choices the past few seasons are the reason he hasn't produced similarly spectacular results as his Columbus counterpart.
Coleman's story on the Plains will end with an Iron Bowl fumble, and perhaps a Bo Nix-like rise at his next stop. It started with so much promise, as did most of the Freeze Four's, but Hugh Freeze didn't know what to do with them and, quite frankly, wasted two valuable years of development.
Alex Golesh and Joel Gordon will unfortunately not get the chance to right those wrongs in 2026.
