The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry will be played for the 130th time on Saturday as Auburn hosts No. 10 Georgia in Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Tigers are looking to break an eight-game losing streak to the Bulldogs that dates back to the 2017 SEC title game.
Kirby Smart's Bulldogs are in the hunt for yet another spot in the College Football Playoff, while Auburn tries to get back on the winning track after two straight losses. As with every rivalry, there have been memorable moments, players, games and endings.
On Friday, we looked at the five most disappointing Auburn losses since 2000. Today, we will take a look at the five best wins since the turn of the century. Off we go:
Honorable Mention
November 11, 2000: No. 22 Auburn 29, No. 14 Georgia 26 (OT)
Auburn fell behind 13-0 early, but a workhorse performance by Rudi Johnson (34 rushes, 152 yards) and two touchdown passes from Ben Leard helped Auburn score 23 straight points. After the Bulldogs kicked a field goal to start overtime, Leard rushed it in from a yard out for the winning score.
November 10, 2001: Auburn 24, Georgia 17
In Mark Richt's first season, his clock management came back to bite him as the Bulldogs, seemingly about to tie the game with the clock winding down, ran out of time, and the Tigers held on for the win.
5. November 12, 2005: No. 15 Auburn 31, No. 9 Georgia 30
In a back-and-forth game that saw eight lead changes, it was Brandon Cox with the final say, hitting Devin Aromashodu on 4th-and-11 for a 63-yard gain. John Vaughn calmly hit a field goal with six seconds left, and this win remains the last Auburn victory in Athens to date.
4. November 11, 2017: No 10 Auburn 40, No. 1 Georgia 17
It was a party in Jordan-Hare Stadium as Auburn hit every button right in a rout of the top-ranked Bulldogs. The highlight came on a screen pass to Kerryon Johnson that went 55 yards for a touchdown.
3. November 13, 2004: No. 3 Auburn 24, No. 8 Georgia 6
With Auburn undefeated and fighting for a spot in the BCS Championship, the Tigers came out and totally dominated the eighth-ranked Bulldogs, only allowing a garbage touchdown near the end of the game. Cadillac Williams ran for 101 yards and a score, while also throwing a touchdown pass to Anthony Mix. The pollsters put Auburn at No. 2 the next week, but not for long.
2. November 13, 2010: No. 2 Auburn 49, Georgia 31
After two weeks of controversy surrounding whether Cam Newton would or wouldn't play, the Auburn quarterback came out angry, leading the Tigers on a touchdown drive to take a 7-0 lead.
The Bulldogs wouldn't make it easy, though, scoring 21 straight points before Newton and Auburn took over.
1. November 16, 2013: No. 7 Auburn 43, No. 25 Georgia 38
One of the most memorable plays in college football history, Nick Marshall dropped back and unleashed a prayer down the field. Two Georgia defenders were there, but the ball was tipped, and Ricardo Louis came down with the pass for the touchdown, hence becoming The Prayer at Jordan-Hare.
The play would be outdone just two weeks later by Chris Davis and the Kick Six.
