When edge Da'Shawn Womack hit the transfer portal after the 2025 season, he found a situation that was almost too good to be true on the Plains and officially made himself an Auburn Tiger.
Not only would Womack be reuniting with quite a few of his high school teammates from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. St. Frances alum on the Auburn squad includes wide receiver Jeremiah Koger, defensive lineman Darrion Smith, cornerback Blake Woodby, linebacker Bryce Deas and safety Wayne Henry.
For Womack, the cherry on top was that his former high school coach Wayne Dorsey would be serving as assistant outside linebackers coach for the Tigers.
"What made me come to Auburn was, I saw that the room was opening up with some of the guys leaving and stuff," Womack said, per Auburn Undercover. "I just saw another opportunity for me to come here. And then with coach (Wayne) Dorsey being my high school coach back in high school, it was just another great opportunity for me to open up more doors for me to come here. And like with former teammates being here as well."
Though it's early in the year, Womack is already liking what he's seeing from his teammates on the Auburn defense, and he describes the dynamic throughout spring practice as competitive. He believes that the defense has a high ceiling come fall.
"I actually feel great about it," he said. "I can actually see us going far with this defense. Just because of how young and talented we are, and how passionate we are about the game. We're really trying to come out here and prove our point."
The Tigers will return to Jordan-Hare Stadium for the A-Day game on April 18.
