Despite a road victory at Baylor, one of the favorites to win the Big 12 this season, Auburn remains unranked in both the Coaches and AP Polls as we head into Week 2 of the college football season.
The voters in the coaches' poll didn't think much of the Tigers' 38-24 victory over the Bears in McClane Stadium, as Hugh Freeze's team garnered just 41 total votes, placing them outside the top 25 at No. 32 in the country.
In the AP poll, Auburn is closer to making the top 25, receiving 94 votes and good for No. 27, just outside the rankings.
The Tigers haven't been ranked in either poll since late in the 2021 season when Bryan Harsin was in charge of the program. However, with home wins against Ball State and South Alabama, Auburn could break that streak as it edges closer to the top 25.
In Week 1, Jackson Arnold led Auburn's potent rushing attack against the Bears, running for 137 yards and two touchdowns, while Damari Alston and Jeremiah Cobb combined for 158 yards and two scores.
The Tigers fell behind 3-0 in the first quarter and looked to be giving up another score, but Baylor went for it on fourth-and-goal and didn't convert. Arnold led the Tigers on a 96-yard drive, capped by his 24-yard run to put Auburn up 7-3.
A touchdown run by Alston in the second quarter finished a 7-play, 65-yard drive to put the Tigers up 14-3. Alex McPherson nailed his first field goal of the season to make it 17-3.
After Baylor scored before the half, Cobb punched it in from two yards out to give Auburn a 24-10 advantage. The Bears responded, but a 98-yard kickoff return by Rayshawn Pleasant put Auburn back up by two touchdowns.
After another touchdown by Baylor, Arnold clinched the game with a 27-yard touchdown run on 4th-and-1 in the fourth quarter.
