As Auburn tries to get back on the winning side of things, Hugh Freeze has contemplated making a change at quarterback, as Jackson Arnold has been less than spectacular in the Tigers' four-game losing streak to start SEC play.
The junior has completed 60.3 percent of his passes across the four games, throwing for just one touchdown and one interception, as Auburn's offense has continually stalled in critical moments. Those results aren't getting the job done; therefore, Freeze has mentioned that Ashton Daniels, a transfer from Stanford, could see some time this Saturday at Arkansas if Arnold's struggles continue.
But what of Deuce Knight, the highly hyped quarterback who signed with Auburn in the 2025 recruiting class? The Auburn coach hasn't ruled out using the freshman.
"We will have all three ready to play (against Arkansas) — including Deuce, Ashton and Jackson," Freeze said on Wednesday.
The former 5-star recruit has appeared in just one game this season, filling in for Arnold in mop-up duty in Auburn's 42-3 victory over Ball State. He looked out of rhythm in his college debut, completing 2-of-5 passes for 20 yards, while rushing four times for 16 yards.
As Freeze notes, Knight has been patient when it comes to playing time despite his big-time stature as a recruit, sitting behind Arnold and Daniels as he tries to learn how to run a collegiate offense.
"Man, he's handled everything extremely well — to be so talented and young and knows his time is coming," Freeze said. "It's just a matter of when."
If Freeze does make a change at quarterback on Saturday, though, it seems like it would be Daniels who is given the first shot. In 11 games last year for the Cardinal, the Buford, Ga., native completed 62.7 percent of his passes for 1,700 yards and 10 touchdowns, but threw 12 interceptions, while rushing for 669 yards and three scores.
