Defensive Backs

Much like Auburn, the least consistent aspect of the Georgia defense has been the secondary. Though, also like Auburn, the group has some talented players capable of making big-time plays. The unit is responsible for all 11 of the team’s interceptions in 2014, which is already four more than Georgia had all of 2013.

Primarily a cornerback, senior Damian Swann is the leader of the secondary and the most veteran member of the unit. Swann was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week following the team’s win over Arkansas in which he recorded 11 tackles, a sack, two forced fumbles and an interception. His three picks are tied for the team lead.

Swann is versatile and has played free safety, strong safety and Star this season as well. Devin Bowman has started eight of Georgia’s nine games at the other cornerback spot and has 16 tackles and three pass breakups. He returned an interception 63 yards for a touchdown against Vanderbilt.

Aaron Davis has started five games at cornerback this season and two at free safety. He has 23 tackles, including one for a loss, one interception and a team-high four pass breakups. Brendan Langley is the team’s top reserve corner, though he also has starting experience.

Strong safeties Corey Moore and Quincy Mauger have split starting duties this season and both will see the field against Auburn Saturday. Mauger has 37 tackles, one for a loss, and three interceptions. Moore has 19 tackles, two TFLs and a pick.

Dominick Sanders hasn’t started a game, but he’s been very active in the defensive backfield. Sanders has 27 tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss, half a sack and an interception. He also returned a fumble 54 yards for a TD against Arkansas.
